Apple CEO Tim Cook Meets PM Modi, Says ‘Company Is Committed To Growing and Investing Across India'

Apple CEO Tim Cook met PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday in New Delhi and thanked him for the "warm welcome". He emphasised that the company is dedicated to expanding and making investments all around the nation.

"Thank you Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the warm welcome. We share your vision of the positive impact technology can make on India's future - from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment, we're committed to growing and investing across the country," Cook tweeted.

Tim Cook arrived in Delhi on the second half of his trip to India, where he spent Wednesday seeing the Lodhi Art neighbourhood and the crafts museum before opening the company's second official retail location there and visiting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Cook, who started his trip to India on April 17, met badminton legends Gopichand and Saina Nehwal, went to the Akanksha Foundation school, which educates children from low-income neighbourhoods, and took a tour of the Indian School of Design & Innovation in Mumbai following the opening of Apple's first physical location there.

His previous visit to India was in 2016, when the internet juggernaut was just starting to expand operations there. This is his first trip there in seven years.
Apple has long desired to open physical shops in India. The Covid-19 epidemic hastened the demise of its initial intentions for 2021.

Cook began the second leg of his visit on Wednesday in the national capital after inaugurating the first official store in Mumbai. He toured the captivating artistic alleys of Lodhi Art District prior to the launch of the Apple store at Saket.

"An absolute delight to meet you, @tim_cook! Glad to exchange views on diverse topics and highlight the tech-powered transformations taking place in India," he tweeted.
On Thursday, Cook will be present at the opening of a second store in Delhi, the national capital.
