Apple Supplier Foxconn Starts iPhone 15 Production In India

Apple Inc's next generation iPhone 15 is beginning production in Tamil Nadu in order to minimise the gap between its India operations and main manufacturing base in China, according to a Bloomberg report.

A Foxconn Technology Group plant in Sriperumbudur is getting ready to deliver the latest device only weeks after they begin shipping from factories in China, as the company seeks to swiftly boost the volume of new iPhones coming from India, added the Bloomberg report.

The Cupertino, California based firm is on a multiyear project to diversify its manufacturing away from China, de-risking the supply chain for its most important products as tensions between Washington and Beijing make trade less predictable, Bloomberg reported. India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to build closer ties with the US and make itself a manufacturing hub.

Previously, iPhone maker Apple began manufacturing its wireless ear buds AirPods at Foxconn's Hyderabad factory, as per the PTI report. Foxconn approved an investment of USD 400 million for Hyderabad plant which is likely to start mass production by December 2024.

"Foxconn Hyderabad factory will make AirPods. The factory is expected to begin mass production by December," a source told PTI.
