April 2025 Festival Holidays: The month of April 2025 is packed with a host of Hindu holidays and anniversaries, including the popular Easter Day and Good Friday. Some of these festivals will be public holidays across India, while some vary from state to state. Hence, during these holidays, bank branches, government, and some private companies will most likely be closed.

Here are the key dates and details of the upcoming holidays:

1. Chaitra Navratri:

Although, this festival has commenced on March 30th, it will continue for nine days and end on April 7th.

Chaitra Navratri is celebrated majorly in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. This is the second most celebrated Navratri in India and is also referred to as Vasantha Navaratri. Devotees celebrate and worship the nine forms of goddesses during this nine-day long festival.

2. Rama Navami:

This year, Ram Navami falls on April 6th and will be celebrated all over the country. Ram Navami falls on the ninth day of Chaitra, however, its rituals and customs vary from state to state. Rama Navami means the birth anniversary of Rama, who is known to be the seventh avatar of Vishnu.

3. Mahavir Swami Jayanti:

Popularly known as Mahavir Jayanti, the festival will be celebrated on April 10th across the country. It is among the most important festivals in Jainism, celebrating the birth of Mahavira who is known to be the 24th and last Tīrthankara of Avasarpini.

4. Ambedkar Jayanti:

Also referred to as Bhim Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti is observed on April 14, in the memory of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar who fought to eradicate the social evils and to bring equality. His birthdate, April 14, is also called as 'Equality Day'.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated with grand processions and love in over 25 states and union territories of India, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal etc.

5. Good Friday:

In 2025, Good Friday is going to be held on April 18th. Good Friday is a holy day for Christians worldwide, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is also called as Black Friday, Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, or Friday of the Passion of the Lord.

Good Friday is a public holiday announced by both central and state governments, hence, will be honoured across the country.

6. Baisakhi:

Baisakhi will be celebrated on April 13, which is the first day of Vaisakh month. However, Baisakhi is also celebrated sometimes on April 14th.

Baisakhi is a popular spring festival in major parts of North India, especially Punjab.

7. Easter Day:

Easter is also a public holiday by both central and state governments, and will be honoured across India. Easter is a Christian holiday, which is renowned as Resurrection Sunday. The day is special as it marks the resurrection of Jesus who rose from the dead, as per the New Testament.

8. Akshaya Tritiya:

This festival will fall on the last day of the month, meaning, April 30th this year.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is an annual Jain and Hindu spring festival. It falls on the third tithi (lunar day) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. This day is auspicious for those who buy rice, deposit money in a bank account, buy any kind of new things or vessels - visit temples, donate foods or special offers for poor people, or help poor children with their education fees, all are good signs for Akshaya Tritiya, as per Wikipedia.

Other Holidays:

Other festivals or special occasions in April 2025 are --- Solar New Year on April 14, Earth Day on April 22, and Vallabhacharya Jayanti on April 24th. These holidays could vary from state to state.
