For the first time, Assam will participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma aims to present investment opportunities and showcase governance reforms during his visit from January 19-23.
Assam is set to make its debut at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Switzerland. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will present the state's investment opportunities to global leaders. This marks a significant step for Assam, showcasing its economic potential on an international platform, according to an official statement released on Sunday.

During his four-day visit to Davos from 19-23 January, Sarma will highlight Assam's economic growth and investment potential. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) mentioned that several important agreements are expected to be signed during this period. "For the first time, Assam steps onto the world stage at the World Economic Forum," the CMO stated in a post on X.
Assam's Global Representation
The Central government has given Assam the opportunity to represent India at the WEF alongside other leading states. Previously, only India's developed states represented the country at this summit. This year marks a new beginning for Assam as it joins this prestigious event, aiming to attract significant investments and enhance its economic prospects.
Sarma plans to use the WEF platform to discuss governance reforms, industrial growth plans, and technology-driven development shaping Assam's future. The CM PR Cell highlighted that Sarma will present various development initiatives focused on inclusive growth and digital transformation.
Key Meetings and Discussions
Sarma is scheduled for over 17 meetings at the WEF, where he will engage in discussions on themes like securing a future-ready workforce, travel and tourism, health and healthcare. These discussions aim to position Assam as a key player in India's broader economic transformation.
The Chief Minister will also showcase Assam's industrial progress and investment opportunities. His participation is expected to open new paths for investment and launch projects like semiconductor initiatives, creating employment opportunities for the younger generation.
India's Strong Presence
India will have a strong representation at the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos. At least four Union Ministers and six Chief Ministers from India are expected to attend, along with over 100 top CEOs from the country. This gathering aims to foster dialogue among global leaders amidst a fragmented world.
Apart from Sarma, other Indian Chief Ministers attending include Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra, N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, A Revanth Reddy of Telangana, and Hemant Soren of Jharkhand. These leaders represent various political parties across India.
The successful conclusion of Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati last year has set high expectations for Sarma's participation at the WEF. It is anticipated that this event will significantly influence investment and economic prospects in Assam.
