Assembly Election Dates 2026: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday, March 15, announced the schedule for the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry.
The legislative assembly elections in these four states and one union territory will begin in April and conclude in May. Here are the full details about the Assembly elections in these states and one union territory.
West Bengal Assembly Election
Legislative assembly elections will occur in two phases in West Bengal. The first phase of state assembly elections will be carried out in 152 seats, whereas the second phase will be carried out on 142 states. Voting for West Bengal assembly elections will be held on April 23 and April 29. Vote counting will be done on May 4.
Kerala Assembly Election
The legislative assembly election in Kerala, will be held in single phase across the seats in the state. The voting will be held on April 2 and vote counting will take place on May 4.
Tamil Nadu Assembly Election
The legislative assembly election in Tamil Nadu will be held in single phase, with voting scheduled for April 23. Tamil Nadu elections vote counting will be held on May 4.
Assam Legislative Assembly Election Date
The Assam assembly election will be held on April 9, 2026. After the polling, the vote counting will be held on May 4.
Elections in Puducherry
Elections in the Union Territory, Puducherry, will be held in single phase. Voting is scheduled for April 9. Whereas, vote counting will be held on May 4.
The legislative assembly elections in these states has come days after the completion of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to update the voter list.

State Assembly Polls in Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala
The current assemblies in these regions end is set to end in May and June. The announcement of legislative assembly polls was made at a press conference in New Delhi at 4 pm on Sunday.
The Election Commission has published the final electoral rolls for the four states and Puducherry. This followed completion of the Special Intensive Revision of the voters' list. It prepares an accurate list of eligible voters for the assembly elections.
"During the recent 12 months, the Election Commission of India has taken more than 30 new initiatives to ensure that elections are more transparent, the experience to the electors is much, much more pleasant, and all the stakeholders get all the necessary information as soon as possible. The first one of them has been the Special Intensive Revision, which ensures that no eligible voter shall be excluded, while at the same time no ineligible person should be included. Amongst the new initiatives, just outside the gate of the polling station, an elector can go, deposit his or her mobile, go and vote inside, come out and collect the mobile and go back," said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the press conference on Sunday.
