The sci-fi epic is coming back to big screens, and all eyes will be on its storyline and whether the movie could surpass its predecessors. As per the latest update, Avatar: Fire & Ash advance bookings opened 10 days ago before the release and it has seen a steady response in pre-sales. But the question is whether Avatar: Fire & Ash could surpass the Rs 50 crore mark on its opening day like the second installment.

As per Sacnilk data, Avatar: Fire & Ash is heading to take a good start at the Indian box office, but is likely to fall short of the opening of its predecessor, Avatar: Way of Water. The second instalment opened to nearly 50 crores gross in 2022, which is the second biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India.
The advance booking for James Cameron's sci-fi opened 10 days in India in IMAX. As of December 15, the Sacnilk data revealed that the movie's pre-sales was short of 60% of The Way of Water for the opening day.
Hence, Fire & Ash is likely to open in the range of 30-35 crores gross in India.

The first part of Avatar was released in 2009 and it broke every multiplex records in the world. The movie emerged to become the highest grosser worldwide, fastest to hit $1 billion mark and also setting the record of highest grosser in 3D. Avatar recorded a box office collection of $2.789 billion worldwide, dethroning Titanic's collection of $1.84 billion. However, the movie was surpassed by Avengers Endgame who earned $2.797 billion. Currently, Avatar is the second highest grosser worldwide.
But its sequel, Avatar : The Way of Water which was launched on big screens in 2022, also did not stay behind in taking the multiplexes by the storm. The Way of Water earned $2.320 billion worldwide, making it the highest grosser of 2022 and post-Covid era.

Avatar: Fire and Ash started shooting simultaneously with The Way of Water in New Zealand on September 25, 2017; filming completed in late December 2020, after over three years of shooting.
