The rally in aviation stocks followed a newly issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), which announced the reopening of 32 airports across northern and western India. Although authorities are ready to restart flight operations, airlines needed time to notify passengers about the changes and reschedule their flights, as there had been previous disruptions due to the Indo-Pakistan Tension.

Interglobe Aviation Stock Price: On May 12, the parent company of IndiGo, InterGlobe Aviation Limited closed with gains at Rs 5,500.00 at 3:30 PM. The airline stock rose sharply by Rs 399.00, registering a 7.82% gain for the day.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), IndiGo shares hit an intraday high of Rs 5,597, marking a 9.72% gain and snapping a four-day losing streak caused by geopolitical tensions. The stock opened 6.28% higher, reflecting fresh investor confidence.

SpiceJet Share Price Today:

Apart from Indigo, another leading airline of country, SpiceJet also gathered strong momentum, surging as much as 10.44% intraday to hit Rs 47.69 after it opened nearly 7% higher on the first trading day after cease-fire agreement between India and Pakistan.

On May 12, SpiceJet Ltd shares ended the session on a strong note, closing at Rs 46.02. The stock gained Rs 2.84, posting an impressive 6.58% rise that signaled a positive shift in investor sentiment.

Airline Stocks in Early Trade After India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement: By 10:43 AM, shares of Indigo, India's largest airline climbed 7.28% to Rs 5,471.35 on the BSE. At the same time, SpiceJet's stock advanced 7.76% to trade at Rs 46.53. Meanwhile, the broader Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex gained 2.79% to reach 81,667.36.

Earlier, on May 9, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had suspended civil flight operations at multiple airports due to "Operation Sindoor" that was India's strategic military response to cross-border hostilities. The initial NOTAM was scheduled to last until 5:29 AM on May 15, 2025.

After the situation returned to normal, authorities reportedly decided to reopen all 32 affected airports, restoring air services to normal. The Ministry of Civil Aviation lifted the restrictions following the overnight subsiding of the conflict, marking the first period of calm since the escalation began.

Airports Reopen and Resume Operations as Situation is in Control

Chandigarh International Airport confirmed the resumption of commercial flights at 10:00 AM on May 12. Delhi International Airport announced mostly unaffected operations, though it warned of minor delays due to residual uncertainty.

Air India and IndiGo issued advisories on social media, stating that some flights might remain cancelled, depending on airport readiness and operational updates.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, 32 airports were temporarily shut down. The affected airports were spread across the following states:

  • Punjab: 7 airports
  • Haryana: Ambala Air Force Station
  • Rajasthan: 5 airports
  • Gujarat: 8 airports
  • Uttar Pradesh: 2 airports
  • Jammu & Kashmir (UT): 3 airports
