Bangalore Bandh Today, August 13: Airport Issues Travel Advisory; How To Navigate Traffic & Highway Routes

A statewide Karnataka bandh is likely to be held on August 13, 2026, for at least 12 hours, starting from 6:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm. As per reports, commuters may face disruptions on the road and highways as Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses may run fewer services or could face possible disruptions and cancellations. Also, Bangalore Airport has issued a travel advisory for Thursday. The bandh is being carried out by pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj and a couple of organizations to protest against the Cauvery River water supply to Tamil Nadu and projects like Mekedatu, Mahadayi, and Kalasa-Banduri.

The capital city, aka Silicon Valley, Bangalore, is expected to be impacted on August 13. However, the impact could be limited as offices, banks, schools, and markets are expected to run normally.

Bangalore Bandh Today: Highway Hotspots and Travel Advisory

1. Emergency services will be fully operational during the strike.

2. Namma Metro is expected to run with guarded stations.

3. KSRTC buses has high risk for cancellations or disruptions, which could delay or lead to fewer services.

4. BMTC buses are reportedly going to run fewer services today or face delay as well.

As per the Native Planet report, highways will likely see intense protests and blockages. Major choke points include Attibele at the Tamil Nadu border. Other sensitive routes are Mandya, Mysuru Road, and Tumakuru Road. Vehicles with out-of-state plates should exercise caution.

Further, the report highlighted that to travel safely, schedule your journey outside the restriction hours. Departing before 6 am is a wise travel option. Alternatively, wait until after 6 pm when protests subside. Always keep buffer time for unexpected highway delays. Verify real-time highway updates using official police handles.

Bangalore Bandh Today: Kempegowda International Airport Travel Advisory

The BLR Airport, the official page for Kempegowda International Airport, has issued travel advisory for passengers planning departure from the city.

Although BLR stated that the airport operations may remain unaffected on August 13. But, it added, "Passengers travelling to and from BLR Airport are advised that taxi and bus services may be impacted due to anticipated disruptions to transport services across parts of Bengaluru."

"Please plan your journey in advance, leave earlier than usual, allow additional travel time, and consider alternative modes of transport where appropriate," it added.

Karnataka Bandh: Bangalore Hotels Rescheduling and Cancellation

As per the report, many travelers are cancelling their bookings at popular destinations such as Coorg and Chikkamagaluru.

The Bangalore Hotels Association has offered moral support but would not participate in the protest.

In a release, the BHA said, "Some pro-Kannada organizations have called for a Karnataka bandh on August 13. As entrepreneurs, we are completely committed to Karnataka and Kannada when it comes to land, water, and language. However, since the hotel industry comes under essential services, we will extend our moral support to the Karnataka bandh."

Why Is the Bangalore Bandh Today?

Apart from the Cauvery river issue, Vatal Nagraj is also protesting against Tamil Nadu's opposition to the Mekedatu project, which is proposed by Karnataka. The Mekedatu project aims at meeting drinking water requirements and water storage for Bengaluru and surrounding areas. It is also aimed at generating 400 MW of hydroelectric power and regulated release of water to Tamil Nadu. However, Tamil Nadu has argued that no new dam or storage project should be constructed across the Cauvery without the consent of other sharing basin states, which are TN, Kerala, and Puducherry.

Nagaraj argues that Bengaluru may suffer a water crisis if the Mekedatu project is not implemented. Emphasizing that the matter should not be taken lightly, he said, "If there's no Mekedatu, Bengaluru will face a drinking water shortage in the future. What will the people of Bengaluru do? Bengaluru includes people speaking Tamil and other languages. What would you do without water?"

He has warned shops and hotels to remain close on August 13. He has threatened to close the Kempegowda International Airport and not allow Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Joseph's visits to Karnataka.
