Bank Holiday 2026: Are Banks Closed On April 15 For Pohela Boishakh, Bohag Bihu, Vishu? City-Wise List

Banks are closed in several parts of India on April 15 for the celebration of Pohela Boishakh, Bohag Bihu and Vishu. Also, there is bank holiday in Himachal Pradesh for the state day. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decides bank holidays depending upon states, culture, events and national holidays. Hence, bank holidays are different from normal public holidays and they vary from city to city.

As per RBI's list, banks are closed in cities like Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kochi, Kolkata, Shimla, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Banks Opened Today:

Accordingly, banks are open in cities like Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, and Vijayawada.

Pohela Boishakh 2026:

The spring harvest festival 'Pohela Baishakh' is going to be celebrated widely by Bengalis across the world. The festival is referred to as 'Nabo Borsha' which means 'new year.' Hence, the Bengali New Year symbolizes the importance of new beginnings and renewals. The festival brings the hope of prosperity and joy.

Vishu 2026:

Vishu is a Hindu festival celebrating the Malayali New Year in Kerala, Tulu Nadu, and Mahe of India.Vishu falls on the first day of the month of Medam, the first month of the Solar calendar used in Malabar of Kerala, signifying the solar new year as the sun moves into the zodiac sign of Aries. It is the traditional new year, while the Kollam era calendar, which was later formed at Kollam in 825 CE, new year falls on the 1st Chingham, as per Wikipedia.

Bohag Bihu 2026:

Bihu is the national festival of Assam. Bihu is a festival celebrated by all people regardless of caste and race. Bihu is mainly an agricultural festival. The Assamese New Year begins on the first day of Bohag. There are Three main agricultural festivals: at the beginning of the crop, during the growing season and at the end of the harvest. There are Three Bihu celebrated in Assam : Bohag Bihu or Rangali Bihu, Kati Bihu or Kangali Bihu, and Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu, as per government's website Utsav.
