Bank Holiday 2026: Are Banks Closed Today Or Not For Kerala Legislative Assembly Election On April 9?
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a holiday on April 9 for the general election of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. However, the bank holidays will vary from city to city. This means that banks will be open in some regions of India. In April 2026, bank holidays are under two categories, namely "Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act" and "Banks' Closing of Accounts."

As per RBI's list, banks will be closed in cities like Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on April 9, major regions of Kerala.
Banks Opened Today:
Meanwhile, banks will remain open in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, and Vijayawada.
Kerala Legislative Assembly Elections 2026:
The legislative assembly election in Kerala will be held on April 9 for the election of 140 members. The polls counting and results is scheduled to be announced on May 4, 2026. Meanwhile, the deadline for the completion of the election process is set on May 6, 2026.
Data of Election Commission of India revealed that as much as 26,953,644 voters are eligible to vote for Kerala's election. These included 13,126,048 male, 13,827,319 female, and 277 transgender voters.
There are 140 constituencies in Kerala, spread across 14 districts, based on the Delimitation Commission of 2002. These 140 constituencies had a major demarcation with many present in the 2006 elections becoming non-existent and newer ones coming into existence, as per Wikipedia.
Bank Holidays In April 2026:
Taking into consideration Kerala's election in April 2026, banks have a total of 15 days holidays including second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays. A host of festivals have lined up such as Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Bohag Bihu, Baisakhi to Akshaya Tritiya among others. Hence, banks will be closed on these days.
