Bank Holiday On April 13, April 14, April 15, April 16: Why Banks Are Closed For Four Days In Row This Week?

Banks are up for a long holiday week from April 13 to April 19. In total, banks will be closed for four days in a row. This is due to the celebration of festivals like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Baisakhi, Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Biju, Buisu Festival, Tamil New Year's Day, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba, Bengali New Year's Day (Nababarsha) and Himachal Day. However, bank holidays vary from city to city.

Bank holidays are decided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These holidays are different than general public holidays but align with national holidays and key major festivals. The holidays are under two categories in April 2026 namely "Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act" and "Banks' Closing of Accounts."

Bank Holidays On April 14:

On this day, a series of festivals will be celebrated across India. These include Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Biju, Buisu Festival, Tamil New Year's Day, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba and Baisakhi.

Bank branches will be closed in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

Bank Holidays On April 15:

On April 15, banks will be closed in Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kochi, Kolkata, Shimla, and Thiruvananthapuram. The day is special for celebration of Bengali New Year's Day (Nababarsha), Bohag Bihu, Vishu, and Himachal Day.

Bank Holidays On April 16:

There is bank holiday in cities like Guwahati alone for celebration of Bohag Bihu on April 16.
