Bank Holiday 2025: Indian scheduled banks will be closed on April 15 in several cities due to the celebration of Bengali New Year's Day, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu. Many states have declared these days as public holiday, however, meaning schools, colleges, offices, and other institutions are likely to be closed. In India, the apex bank, RBI decides holidays for both private and PSU banks.
Bank Holiday On April 15:
As per RBI's list of bank holidays for April 15, branches in some cities will be closed due to Bengali New Year's Day, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu on Tuesday, April 15. This holiday falls under RBI's category of Negotiable Instruments Act.
Services like applying for debit or credit cards; making lump-sum deposits or withdrawals, applying for loans or overdrafts, updating passbook, submitting applications for new chequebooks, or opening a new account or investment FDs, among others --- are some of the services that are offered by bank branches.
Not just that, a visit to bank branches is also required for many pension or provident fund-related services. For instance, to submit a life certificate for pensions, you require your respective banks' stamp and signature, and this will require you to visit the branch.
Since banks will be closed on April 15, these bank branch-related services may be impacted. However, ATM services will be operational 24X7.
According to RBI's list, banks will be closed in cities like Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kolkata, and Shimla.
Bank branches will be open in cities like Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, Panaji, Raipur, Patna, Shillong, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram on April 15.
In April 2025, there are total 11 special holidays announced for banks, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays, as per RBI.
