Bank Holiday Today: Indian scheduled banks will be closed on Monday, March 31, 2025, due to the celebration of Eid Ul Fitr, which falls on the first day of Shawwal. Major Middle Eastern and Western countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA and Canada celebrated Eid on March 30, while in India, the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted on Sunday, and this followed a public holiday on Monday for the Eid festival.
Eid marks the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan, which Muslims worldwide practice from dawn to dusk. The Shawwal crescent moon symbolises the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid which is generally the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

Bank Holiday Today:
Despite March 31 being the last day of the financial year closing for 2024-25, RBI announced bank holidays on this day due to the Eid celebration across the country. Eid is a public holiday and the majority of states follow. However, banks will be open in a few cities.
That being said, banks in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kanpur, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.
While banks will be opened in cities like Shimla and Aizawl.
Since the cities where banks are closed, customers will not be able to carry out payment or financial transactions.
Payment systems typically include Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), Cheque Clearing operated by various Bankers' Clearing Houses in the country including the grid-based Cheque Truncation System (CTS) and ECS suite [Electronic Clearing Service (ECS), Regional Electronic Clearing Service (RECS) and National Electronic Clearing Service (NECS)].
Bank holidays in India are decided by RBI. In March month, the bank holidays varied under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Banks' Closing of Accounts category. In total, banks had 8 special holidays in the current month, excluding second and fourth Saturdays, and all Sundays.
