Happy Children's Day: Schools in India will be closed on Thursday, November 14, 2024, due to the celebration of Children's Day, also popularly called Bal Diwas. Will banks be closed on this day too? Children's Day in the country also marks the birthday celebration of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru after Independence.
RBI decides the holiday list for banks every year. However, it needs to be noted that bank holidays vary from state to state. Some of these holidays are very local and hence are decided by the respective state governments. On the other hand, some of them are very mandatory and it is not a prerogative of anybody as these are already the national holidays in India.

Bank Holiday On November 14 Or Not?
As per RBI's list of holidays for the current month, banks will be opened across the country on November 14. That being said, Children's Day is not considered a bank or public holiday.
Usually, banks are closed during public holidays that are announced by the central government and state governments respectively.
In November 2024, banks have 8 special holidays excluding second and fourth Saturdays and all four Sundays.
India is a multi-cultural and very diverse country and also has many national and other bank holidays. A bank holiday in India is generally considered a public holiday when banks and other financial institutions remain closed. Not all public holidays are classified as Bank Holidays as they varies with state and region.
In general terms, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month in addition to the above-mentioned bank holidays. The fifth Saturday of a month with five Saturdays is a working day for banks. In the past, banks would only open for a half-day on Saturdays.
Happy Children's Day:
Notably, World Children's Day is celebrated on 20 November to commemorate the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1959. In some countries, it is Children's Week and not Children's Day. The Sikhs celebrate Children Day on 20 December to 27 December.
In India, Children's Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year on the birthday of the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, who was known to have been fond of children. On this day, many educational and motivational programs for children are held all over India. Some schools in India give leave to their students on Children's Day while private schools organize a fair for their students, as per Wikipedia.
