Bank Holiday Today For Ganesh Visarjan: Are SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Other Banks Shut On September 25? City-Wise List

Banks in some parts of India are going to be closed due to the celebration of Anant Chaturdashi and Ganesh Visarjan on September 25, 2026. Banks, especially in Mumbai, may be closed on Friday. Also, banks in Gangtok will be closed for Indrajatra, as per the RBI's holiday list. These banks include SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, and Canara Bank, among others.

However, bank holidays vary from city to city, and accordingly, banks are not closed in every city on September 25.

As per RBI's holiday list, banks will be closed in cities like Gangtok for the celebration of Indrajatra. This means banks in every other city will continue to operate as normal.

Accordingly, banks are open in cities like Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.

Bank Holiday On Ganesh Visarjan?

Although RBI has not declared a bank holiday for the celebration of Ganesha visarjana in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Goa, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Jaipur, and Nashik, the chances of banks having a half-day or holiday on a local basis in these cities could be high. The Ganesh festival is celebrated heavily in this region.

Even if banks are open, it is advisable for customers to check the local traffic advisory to reach your bank and enquire about its services before leaving the home, as the Ganesh idols procession will be carried in several parts of the states.

Indrajatra 2026

Indra Jatra or "Yenya" is the biggest festival for the Nepalese "NEWAR" community in Sikkim and is celebrated with much fanfare throughout the state. Named after the Hindu God of Rain and also the King of Heaven, Lord Indra, the festival's prime objective is to seek his blessings in the form of rains and showers. Ganesh Visarjan

Ganesha Visarjan can be done on the same day of Ganesha Chaturthi after Ganesha Puja. Most Puja Vidhi(s) of Hindu deities include either Visarjan or Utthapana at the end of the Puja. However, Ganesha Visarjan on the same day of Ganesha Chaturthi is less popular, as per Drik Panchang.

Anant Chaturdashi

Ananta Chaturdashi is going to be celebrated on September 25, 2026, a festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu, observed and celebrated by Hindus across the country. This special occasion falls on the fourteenth day of the moon's waxing phase during the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. It is also the last day of the 10-day-long festival, Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, devotees will carry their Ganesha idols with music, procession, and joy for visarjana in water.
