Good Friday 2026:

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. From the early days of Christianity, Good Friday was observed as a day of sorrow, penance, and fasting, a characteristic that finds expression in the German word Karfreitag ("Sorrowful Friday"), as per Britannica.

Good Friday Significance:

Good Friday gives utmost importance to the crucifixion of Christ. As per Wikipedia, Jesus agonized on the cross for three hours, from noon to 3 pm, darkness fell over the whole land.[28] In the gospels of Mathew and Mark, Jesus is said to have spoken from the cross, quoting the messianic Psalm 22: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

After the agonizing hours, with a loud cry, Jesus gave up his spirit. There was an earthquake, tombs broke open, and the curtain in the Temple was torn from top to bottom. The centurion on guard at the site of crucifixion declared, "Truly this was God's Son!"

Hence, the message of Good Friday is that Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice of his blood for the sins of humankind. Also, Good Friday is considered the fulfillment of the promise in the Bible that Jesus will be born, die for everyone's sins and resurrect on the third day, popularly called Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday.

Easter Sunday accordingly falls on April 5, 2026.
