Bank Holidays 2026: Banks To Be Shut For 4 Days From April 25- May 3; Fourth Saturday To Maharashtra Day
Indian banks are up for four days of holidays from April 25th to May 3rd due to Maharashtra Day, May Day, Labor Day and the fourth Saturday of April 2026. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decides bank holidays depending upon states, festivals, events and national holidays. Accordingly, bank holidays vary from state to state.
Bank Holiday On April 25:

All banks in India will be closed on April 25 due to the day being fourth Saturday of the month. Either be private, public, regional, local or foreign banks, they will be closed on Saturday.
Fourth Saturday Bank Holiday:
Since September 2015, RBI has directed that all scheduled and non-scheduled banks - public, private, foreign, cooperative, regional rural and local area banks - will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays.
Accordingly, payment systems will not be operated on second and fourth Saturdays but would operate for full day on working Saturdays. Payment systems typically includes Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), Cheque Clearing operated by various Bankers' Clearing Houses in the country including the grid based Cheque Truncation System (CTS) and ECS suite [Electronic Clearing Service (ECS), Regional Electronic Clearing Service (RECS) and National Electronic Clearing Service (NECS)].
Bank Holiday On April 26:
April 26th is a Sunday, which is a bank holiday to all banking services providers.
Banks Open On April 27, 28, 29, April 30
After April 25-26 holidays, banks will be operational as normal on April 27, 28, 29 and April 30th as there are no special events or festivals lined during these days.
Bank Holiday On May 1:
The next big holiday will be on May 1 due to Maharashtra Din/Buddha Pournima/May Day (Labour Day)/Birth Anniversary of Pandit Raghunath Murmu. However, bank holidays will vary from city to city.
On May 1st, banks will be closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada.
Meanwhile, banks will be open in cities like Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Gangtok, Kohima, and Shillong.
Bank Holidays On May 2 or May 3?
During the month of May 2026, the date May 2 is the first Saturday which is not a bank holiday. Hence, all banks will be open but some banks could have a half-day in several cities.
On the other hand, all banks in India will be closed on May 3rd due to Sunday.
