Bank Holidays: Are SBI, HDFC, Other Banks Closed Today, Tomorrow or Monday? Second Saturday To Raja Sankranti

Bank holidays in India are decided by RBI and they vary from city to city. Besides special holidays for festivals, national events, and state-level important occasions, banks follow a unique holiday pattern during weekends. That being said, banks in India are in for a three-day consecutive holiday weekend from June 13th to June 15th.

Bank Holiday On June 13, 2026:

As per the guidelines, banks are open on two Saturdays and closed on two Saturdays of every month. All Sundays are bank holidays, though.

The only two Saturdays when banks are closed are the second and fourth of every month. If there are five Saturdays in a month, then the last fifth Saturday is a working day for banks.

Hence, banks are closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays. Going by this rule, June 13th is the second Saturday of the current month.

Therefore, all banks—whether private, public, cooperative, regional or foreign-are closed on June 13, 2026. These also include major banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Bank of Baroda, among others.

Second Saturday Bank Holiday Rule!

Since September 1, 2015, RBI has made it mandatory for all scheduled and non-scheduled banks-public, private, foreign, cooperative, regional rural and local area banks-to observe a public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays.

RBI's rule stated that the Banking Departments in Regional Offices of the Reserve Bank will remain open for the full day on working Saturdays as required to support the functioning of the Financial Markets and the Payment Systems. Government business will be transacted at agency banks on working Saturdays.

Which Transactions Are Closed During Second Saturday Bank Holiday?

According to the rule, payment systems will not be operational on second and fourth Saturdays but will operate for a full day on working Saturdays.

These payment systems typically include Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), and Cheque Clearing operated by various Bankers' Clearing Houses in the country, including the grid-based Cheque Truncation System (CTS) and ECS suite [Electronic Clearing Service (ECS), Regional Electronic Clearing Service (RECS) and National Electronic Clearing Service (NECS)].

Also, processing of future value-dated transactions with value date falling on second and fourth Saturdays will not be undertaken under RTGS and ECS suites.

Bank Holidays On June 14:

Since June 14 is a Sunday, all banks will be closed on this day as well.

Bank Holidays On June 15:

The June 2026 holidays list by RBI reveals that banks in some cities will be closed on June 15 due to the celebration of Raja Sankranti and YMA Day. These cities are Aizawl and Bhubaneswar. This makes June 15th the first special holiday of the month for banks.

YMA Day 2026:

YMA Day is of great significance for people of Mizoran. YMA stands for Young Mizo Association and is the largest non-profit, secular and non-government organization. It was established on June 15, 1935. Since then, Mizo people have been celebrating and honoring this day.

Raja Sankranti 2026:

Raja Sankranti is an agriculture-oriented festival, mainly observed in the coastal districts of Odisha for three days. The last day of the month of Jestha is known as Pahili Raja, and the first day of the month of Asadha is Raja Sankranti. Even in some places in Odisha, the fourth day of the Raja festival is also celebrated as Basumata Puja. During this festival, Earth, or "Basu Mata," is considered to be a menstruating woman. Hence, digging soil or tempering it in any way is strictly prohibited. Mother Earth is said to undergo pollution due to menstruation and is given rest just like a woman, imposed with several restrictions, as per Odisha Tour.
