Bank Holidays in April 2025: Banks will remain closed in different regions across India for ten days in April. Additionally, there will be a bank holiday on every Sunday and second and fourth Saturday of the month. The RBI notifies bank holidays under negotiable instruments act. Banks are also closed on public holidays and for purpose like bank closing of accounts. In April, all private, public, cooperative and other categories of banks will remain closed on ten days in different regions of the country.
April 1
As we will enter into the new financial year 2025-26 on Banks across India remain closed on Tuesday, these financial institutions will remain shut on April 1. RBI has notified 1 April as bank holiday to enable them to close their yearly accounts.
April 5
RBI has notified a bank holiday on April 5 on the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti in Hyderabad-Telangana region. The occasion is observed mainly in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mark the birth anniversary of Jagjivan Ram, who served as the deputy prime minister of India in 1979.
April 10
There will be a bank holiday on Monday, April 10, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti in several regions of the country. The occasion marks the birth anniversary of the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism is a gazetted holiday in India. According to the RBI calendar, the day has been marked as a holiday for banks in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur and Ranchi.
April 14
To mark the occasion of Babasaheb Ambedkary Jayanti, banks will remain shut in more than 10 regions across India on April 14. There will be a bank holiday in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, etc.
April 15
Banks will remain shut under RBI's 'Negotiable Instrument Act' on April 15 on the account of Bengali New Year's Day, Himachal Day, and Bohag Bihu. As per RBI's bank holiday calender, financial institutions will remain shut in Agartala, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kolkata, and Shimla regions.
April 16
Banks in certain other regions will remain shut on April 16 on the occasion of Bohag Bihu, also known as Rongali Bihu to mark the beginning of Assamese New Year. Bank branches located in Guwahati region will remain shut on the day.
April 18
Nearly all banks across India will remain closed on April 18 on the occasion of Good Friday, Christian holy day commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Banks will remain shut across India accept Agartala, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Shimla, Srinagar, etc.
April 21
People won't be able to visit their banks in Agartala on April 21 because it will be a holiday on the occasion of Garia Puja, a religious festival celebrated in Tripura to honour Baba Garia, the god of livestock and wealth.
April 29
Banks in Shimla region will remain shut on April 29 to observe Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti. Despite bank holiday in the region, people can carry out most of their financial transactions and other tasks with the help of online banking.
April 30
Banks in Bengaluru region will remain closed on April 30 to mark the occasion of Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Bank holidays in your city may not align with mentioned dates as most of the holidays have been marked under the 'Negotiable Instrument Act' and it is better to contact your nearest branch to confirm about bank holiday.
