Bank Holidays September 2026: Banks Across India will observe several holidays next month due to festivals, regional celebrations and regular weekend closures. However, bank holidays are not the same across the country, as festival and regional holidays vary from one state and city to another.

Customers of public and private sector banks, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, should check the bank holiday applicable to their branch before planning a visit.

Bank Holidays In September 2026

September will have many bank closures, including holidays for Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and other regional festivals, along with the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays.

September 4: Janmashtami Bank Holiday

Banks will remain closed on September 4 in several cities for Janmashtami, Krishna Jayanthi and related celebrations. The affected centres include Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada. Customers in these cities should complete branch-related work in advance if required.

September 12: Second Saturday

Banks across India will be closed on September 12, which falls on the second Saturday of the month. In addition, banks in Guwahati will observe a regional holiday for the Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.

September 14: Ganesh Chaturthi Bank Holiday

Several banking centres will remain closed on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi and related celebrations. The holiday will apply in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada for observances including Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Puja, Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata and Hartalika.

September 15: More Regional Bank Holidays

Some branches will also remain closed on September 15. Banks in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Panaji will observe holidays for Samvatsari, Nuakhai or the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi, depending on the location.

September 21: Regional Bank Holidays

On September 21, banks in Guwahati, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed for regional observances, including the Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.

September 22: Karma Puja

Banks in Ranchi will remain closed on September 22 for Karma Puja, a regional festival observed in parts of eastern and central India.

September 23: Maharaja Hari Singh Birthday

Banks in Jammu and Srinagar will observe a holiday on September 23 on account of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.

September 25: Indrajatra

Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on September 25 for Indrajatra.

September 26: Fourth Saturday

Banks across India will be closed on September 26, which is the fourth Saturday of the month. Apart from these dates, banks will also remain closed on all Sundays in September.

Will Online Banking And UPI Work On Bank Holidays?

Even when physical bank branches are closed, customers can generally continue using UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs. However, certain branch-dependent services, including cash deposits, cheque-related work and other in-person banking services, may not be available on holidays.
