Bank Holiday September 27: Banks in India are going to be open this Sunday, September 27, 2026, in a special arrangement before the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.

The Ministry of Finance said that Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will function normally on Sunday. The Reserve Bank of India has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on September 27.

Why Are Banks Open On Sunday, September 27?

September 27 is normally a Sunday and would ordinarily be a bank holiday. However, the special opening has been announced because the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to September 30.

The timing is particularly important because September 30 is the half-yearly closing date for banks. The Finance Ministry has also appealed to bank unions to defer the proposed strike.
