Bank Unions To Observe Strike On June 27 After IBA Denies To Settle Demands
As the conciliatory meeting convened today by the Chief Labour Commissioner S C Joshi resulted in no decision, the all India bank strike called for June 27 stands, says CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA.
"We had suggested that if IBA can give a firm commitment to resolve the demands with an agreed timeframe, we may reconsider our agitation. However, IBA did not agree to give such commitment. Hence, we are going ahead with our planned strike," Venkatachalam told a leading business publication after the CLC organised a meeting in the National Capital.
The key demands of bank unions are 5-day working week (all Saturdays and Sundays to be holidays), scrapping of NPS for post April 2010 employees/officers and implementation of old pension scheme for them. "The pending issues are like hike in conveyance allowance to physically challenged employees, uniform banking hours in branches, improvement in medical insurance and staff welfare schemes, fitment to ex-servicemen employees, improvement in pension rules as given to the central government staff, special allowance in North Eastern states and others," Venkatachalam told a news agency.
To avoid the all India bank strike, the CLC has called for another meeting on June 23.
