Prashant Kishor is no longer just Bihar's best-known poll strategist; he is now an elected legislator. The Jan Suraaj Party founder won the Bankipur assembly bypoll by a margin of 18,953 votes, defeating the BJP in a seat the party had long held, in results declared on Monday, August 3.

According to the affidavit filed with his nomination papers, Kishor's personal assets add up to roughly Rs. 96 crore, split between movable holdings worth around Rs. 22.19 crore and immovable property valued at close to Rs. 73.87 crore.

His immovable assets include a dismantled rice mill spread across more than three acres in Rohtas, along with residential properties in Patna's Patliputra Colony, in Vasant Vihar in New Delhi, and in Ghaziabad.

Interestingly, his wife, Dr Jahnavi Das, is a trained physician and MBBS doctor who currently serves as Senior Advisor for Special Projects at Apollo Indraprastha Hospital in New Delhi. turns out to be considerably wealthier than him; her declared assets cross Rs. 101 crore, made up of movable assets worth close to Rs. 99.52 crore and immovable holdings of about Rs. 12.42 crore.

Put together, the couple's combined declared wealth exceeds Rs. 197 crore. The affidavit also lists their son's bank deposits at a modest Rs, 7.19 lakh, and notes cash in hand for Kishor himself at just over Rs. 65,000.

Kishor's schooling and academic record are laid out in detail in the affidavit. He completed his Class 10 at M.P. High School in Buxar in 1991, followed by Class 12 at Patna Science College in 1993. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Lucknow between 1996 and 1999. His postgraduate qualification is a Master of Healthcare Management from the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad, completed in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University in the United States and Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital, between 2001 and 2003. He also holds a certification in French, having taken an intensive language course at Cavilam Vichy, part of Clermont Ferrand University in France, in 2010.

The Eight Pending Cases

The affidavit discloses eight criminal cases currently pending against Kishor, most of them registered in 2024 and 2025 across police stations and courts including Gandhi Maidan, Sachivalaya, Pirbahore, Saharsa Sadar, Bettiah and West Muzaffarpur. The allegations across these cases span unlawful assembly, rioting, obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty, criminal conspiracy, wrongful restraint, use of criminal force, and criminal defamation, among other charges. Importantly, the affidavit is explicit that no charges have been formally framed in any of these cases and that Kishor has not been convicted in a single one of them. Petitions relating to some of these matters are currently pending before the Patna High Court.
