BCCI Invites Tenders: IPL Title Sponsorship Up For Grabs For 2024-2028 Seasons

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially thrown open the bidding process for the title sponsorship rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the seasons 2024 to 2028. The current title sponsors, TATA, have taken the IPL rights, but now the league is on the lookout for a new partner to sail through the next season.

In a media advisory dated December 12, 2023, the BCCI announced the release of the "Invitation to Tender" (ITT) for the coveted Title Sponsor Rights, inviting bids from reputed entities eager to make a mark in the world of Indian cricket.

The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process, including eligibility requirements, bid submission process, rights, and obligations, have been encapsulated in the ITT document. Interested parties can acquire the document by paying a non-refundable fee of INR 5,00,000 (Indian Rupees Five Lakh Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax. The deadline for purchasing the ITT is set for January 8, 2024.

To start the process, interested parties are required to email the details of payment made for the ITT purchase to [email protected]. It is important to note that the ITT documents will be shared only upon confirmation of the payment of the non-refundable ITT fee, ensuring a level playing field for serious contenders.

While purchasing the ITT is a prerequisite for submitting a bid, eligibility criteria outlined in the ITT, along with other specified terms and conditions, will determine which entities are qualified to participate in the bidding process. The BCCI clarifies that the mere purchase of the ITT does not automatically grant the right to bid, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the guidelines.

For potential bidders, Annexure B of the ITT is of particular interest, as it outlines specific brand categories in which interested parties are prohibited from bidding. This strategic move by the BCCI aims to maintain the integrity of the IPL brand and ensure that sponsors align with the league's ethos.

Adding a twist to the bidding process, the BCCI has revealed that Tata Sons Private Limited holds the power of 'Right to Match' (RTM) the highest bid submitted by other parties. This implies that Tata, the current title sponsor, has the option to match the best offer made by a competitor, potentially retaining their association with the IPL for the upcoming seasons.

However, the BCCI has retained the authority to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage without providing a specific reason, keeping the dynamics of the sponsorship acquisition process fluid.

The IPL title sponsorship bidding process for 2024-2028 will be a riveting affair, with corporate giants vying for the opportunity to align their brand with one of the most popular cricket leagues.
