MoU with DMRC for metro rail projects

DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar called the agreement "a historic collaboration between two Indian entities.\" Kumar said the partnership would significantly enhance urban mobility, particularly metro networks, in India and abroad. Kumar also flagged a need for indigenous propulsion systems. Kumar said innovation should support such development for rolling stock.

Kumar also stressed domestic design and production of Tunnel Boring Machines TBMs. Kumar linked this to future projects across transport sectors. These include high-speed rail, metro systems and Regional Rapid Transit Systems RRTS. The focus, Kumar said, is on building key equipment within India. The aim is to support upcoming infrastructure works.

BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy said DMRC links will deepen BEML’s rail presence. Roy said BEML’s rolling stock manufacturing can pair with DMRC’s delivery experience. Roy also pointed to DMRC’s record in operations. Roy said the combined skills can help offer complete solutions. Roy said these would be competitive and globally benchmarked.

BEML said both organisations will work in domestic and international markets. The company said the cooperation will rely on each side’s core strengths. BEML also pointed to recent export progress. BEML said it won its first overseas order for metro rolling stock. The deal is about USD 60 million for a project in Africa.

The MoU sets out how BEML and DMRC plan to coordinate on metro rail projects. Both sides said the work will span India and overseas markets. BEML linked the move to growth in the rail segment. DMRC highlighted local manufacturing needs for propulsion and TBMs. The companies said the collaboration will guide future project efforts.
