Bengaluru-Mumbai Express Launched: Check Ticket Fare, Timings & All; Train Route via Hubballi, Belagavi & Pune

The Ministry of Railways has introduced a new long-distance express train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, providing passengers with a fresh and convenient rail option between two of India's most important economic and technology hubs. The inaugural service was flagged off virtually by Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday.

In addition to linking Bengaluru and Mumbai, the service will improve rail access to several key cities along the route, such as Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and Pune. These cities are among some of western and southern India's fastest-growing commercial and educational centres.

Bengaluru is widely regarded as India's technology capital, while Mumbai remains the country's financial powerhouse. Pune is a major automobile and IT hub, and Belagavi and Hubballi serve as important industrial and logistics centres. By connecting all these cities, the new express train is expected to cater to strong and sustained passenger demand.

Bengaluru-Mumbai Express Ticket Price For Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, 2-Tier & Others

Indian Railways has announced the indicative fares for passengers travelling between SMVT Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.

The Sleeper Class fare has been fixed at Rs 750, making it one of the most affordable options for covering the 1,200-kilometre journey.

Passengers choosing AC 3-Tier will pay Rs 1,880, while the AC 2-Tier fare has been set at Rs 2,575.

SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express Train Numbers

The service will operate as Train Nos. 16553 and 16554 between Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. For the inaugural journey on May 17, the Railways operated a special one-way service under Train No. 06557. The train is being operated and maintained by South Western Railway.

Bangalore-Mumbai Express Regular Services to Begin from May 23; Check Departure Timings & Running Days

The train will begin regular departures from Bengaluru from Saturday, May 23, 2026, while the first scheduled return service from Mumbai will start on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Train No. 16553 SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express will depart from Bengaluru at 8:35 PM every Tuesday and Saturday and reach Mumbai at 8:40 PM on Wednesday and Sunday respectively.

The return service, Train No. 16554 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-SMVT Bengaluru Express, will run on corresponding days, ensuring a reliable twice-a-week connection in both directions.

New Mumbai-Bengaluru Express Duration and Distance

The express will cover a total distance of approximately 1,210 kilometres in 24 hours and 5 minutes, offering passengers a comfortable overnight and next-day journey between the two cities.

This schedule is particularly convenient for business travellers and weekend passengers, as it allows departures after working hours and arrivals by the following evening.

SMVT Bengaluru-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express Coach Composition

The new service will operate twice a week and will consist entirely of modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches.

LHB coaches are designed for greater passenger safety and comfort. They offer smoother rides, higher speed capability, better suspension, improved interiors and enhanced crash protection compared with conventional coaches.

The train will comprise a total of 17 coaches, including:

One AC 2-Tier coach
Four AC 3-Tier coaches
Six Sleeper Class coaches
Four General Second Class coaches
One Second Class Luggage-cum-Brake Van with a dedicated Divyangjan-friendly compartment
One Luggage-cum-Generator Car-cum-Brake Van
