Bengaluru Namma Metro Pink Line Update: RDSO Safety Trials To Continue Till May 12
The much-awaited Bengaluru's Namma Metro Pink Line is inching closer to operations, with the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) inspection currently underway till May 12, marking a key milestone ahead of safety approvals and the eventual commissioning of the corridor.

Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the RDSO will assess train performance and system parameters during the test phase. These trials are crucial to evaluate the safety, efficiency, and operational readiness of the metro line.
Notably, RDSO testing is a mandatory step before any metro line in India can begin service. The process involves rigorous checks to ensure that trains, tracks, signalling systems, and related infrastructure meet stringent safety and performance standards. This includes braking tests, signalling validation, speed trials, load assessments, and a thorough review of safety measures. The structural integrity of civil works along the corridor is also closely examined.
Once the trials are completed, the collected data will be analysed and an Interim Speed Certification will be issued, determining the permissible operating speed for trains on the route. This is a key requirement before further statutory approvals can proceed.
Following this, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CRS) will conduct an independent inspection. That report will then be submitted to the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety and subsequently to the Railway Board for technical sanction. Only after receiving all the technical clearances will the Pink Line be opened for public use.
Experts estimate that this entire process could take around two to three months, though timelines may extend if any technical or operational issues arise. Meanwhile, construction on the underground stretch between Dairy Circle and Nagawara is progressing steadily, with authorities optimistic about completing the full corridor by the end of the year.
The Pink Line spans approximately 21.3 km, making it a significant addition to Bengaluru's metro network. Of this, around 13 km will run underground between Dairy Circle and Nagawara, one of the longest underground sections in the city, while the remaining 7.53 km will be elevated, connecting Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere.
The corridor will have 18 stations, including key interchange points at MG Road, Jayadeva Hospital, and Nagawara, allowing seamless connectivity with the Purple, Yellow, and upcoming Blue lines. Major stations along the route include Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, Tavarekere, Dairy Circle, Lakkasandra, Langford Town, National Military School, MG Road, Shivajinagar, Cantonment, Pottery Town, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Kadugundanahalli, and Nagawara.
Train services on the Pink Line are expected to run from 5:30 am to 11:00 pm. During peak hours, trains will arrive every 5 to 7 minutes, while non-peak intervals are likely to range from 8 to 12 minutes, similar to the current Purple and Green lines.
