Bengaluru Power Cut Or Not, Residents To Face THIS BIG Change From May 1; BESCOM Revises Electricity Tariffs
The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has raised domestic electricity tariffs by 56 paise per unit from May 1. The change has come after BESCOM received regulatory approval. Meanwhile, some areas in Bengaluru reportedly faced a power cut early on Saturday, April 2.
The higher BESCOM tariff will be applicable to homes using between 100 and 200 units each month, where usage is moderate. Here are all the details about the revised tariff on power by BESCOM.

What Changed In Electricity Bills by BESCOM From May 1?
BESCOM has raised domestic electricity tariffs by 56 paise per unit from 1 May.
The higher BESCOM tariff will especially affect homes using between 100 and 200 units each month, where usage is moderate but steady. Consumers under the Gruha Jyothi scheme remain covered only within their free unit limits, so any excess or ineligible usage will now cost more.
BESCOM Electricity Tariff Revision
The tariff revision is part of a planned regulator process. The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the increase after reviewing the utility's finances. This approval lets BESCOM recover past losses through revised consumer tariffs rather than separate government support.
BESCOM has cited a sizeable revenue shortfall as the reason for the electricity tariff hike. For the 2024-25 financial year, KERC estimated sales revenue at about ₹34,084 crore, but BESCOM collected only nearly ₹32,019 crore. This created a ₹2,068 crore gap, which the company aims to bridge through higher domestic charges.
"As per the Annual Performance Review (APR) order dated 17-04-2026 issued by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for the financial year 2024-25, the APR (True-Up) charge has been approved. Accordingly, ₹0.56 (56 paise) per unit will be levied on electricity consumption of FY 2024-25 and collected during FY 2026-27," read a notice by BESCOM on X.
BESCOM Revises Tariff: How Electricity Bill Charge Will Be Calculated?
The charge will be calculated based on the electricity units consumed during FY 2024-25 and will be recovered in 12 EMIs, as per BESCOM update.
"This charge will be calculated based on the electricity units consumed during FY 2024-25 and will be recovered in 12 equal monthly instalments (inclusive of taxes) from May 2026 to April 2027 through the monthly electricity bills," read the notice by BESCOM.
The revised tariff linked to electricity supply in Bengaluru will come into effect from the first meter reading after May 1, 2026. The additional cost will reportedly continue until April 30, 2027, which would ensure that the financial burden is spread out evenly over a year.
BESCOM Bill For Gruha Jyothi Scheme
For the beneficiaries of the Gruha Jyothi Scheme, " the subsidy amount for eligible units will be borne by the Government," but they have to pay for any "consumption exceeding the eligible limit."
For commercial and industrial consumers, "the tariff revision applies to base consumption," and it will not be applied to electricity consumption exceeding the base consumption under the 'Discounted Energy Rate Scheme'.
With BESCOM using the tariff hike to stabilise finances, consumers in Bengaluru may face further small changes when regulators review costs again. For now, the 56 paise per unit rise adds a clear extra burden for many households, particularly those already dealing with rising living expenses.
Bengaluru Power Cut Today
There has been no official power cut notice or information by BESCOM in advance regarding power supply disruptions in Bengaluru. But the power transmission firm confirmed of power supply disruption due to "interruption in 66/11KV Anjanapura MUSS F11 Feeder Fault". The power is expected to be restored by 1 pm, as per BESCOM social media post.
