Bengaluru Rains: Heavy Rainfall Likely At Isolated Places Over South Interior Karnataka And Other Places

Bengaluru is expected to experience widespread rainfall today (Thursday) and Tomorrow (Friday). Even on Wednesday, several south Indian states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu faced waterlogging issues due to incessant rainfall.

Bengaluru received light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday causing flooding in several areas, and forcing the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) to issue advisories throughout the evening. Due to the sudden rainfall, many school and college students were seen seeking shelter on the roads to protect themselves from getting drenched. According to Skymet, more rainfall can be expected in the city on November 23 and November 24.

One should note that, on November 20, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, signaling the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 22 and 23.

Meanwhile, in its all-India weather summary and forecast bulletin on November 22, the IMD department said that light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places with isolated heavy rainfall over over Coastal Karnataka on 23rd and over South Interior Karnataka on 23rd & 24th November 2023 due to a trough in easterly runs from over Comorin area to Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast in lower tropospheric levels.

It said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka.
A thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) is very likely
at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe and with lightning at isolated places over Madhya
Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

November 24

Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe.

November 26

Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) at isolated
places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; with lightning likely at isolated places over Madhya
Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan & Goa, Gujarat state, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka,
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe.
