Every year, Bengaluru sees a massive surge in outbound traffic during Diwali, with thousands of residents travelling to their hometowns or other tourist places. The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to help commuters plan their journeys better and avoid long jams on city roads.

According to the advisory released on Friday, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has identified six major locations that are likely to witness severe traffic congestion over the Diwali weekend. These include Goraguntepalya, Hebbal, Majestic, Old Madras Road, Mysuru Road, and Hosur Road, Deccan Herald reported. Most of these stretches serve as key exit and entry points to the city, connecting Bengaluru with neighbouring districts and states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.
Major Bengaluru Traffic Area On This Diwali Weekend
Goraguntepalya, which is a major junction on Tumakuru Road; this area connects to highways heading towards northern Karnataka and Maharashtra. Bottlenecks are common here during festive weekends.
Hebbal: One of the busiest junctions in the city, Hebbal connects to Kempegowda International Airport and the Outer Ring Road. The Bengaluru traffic police are expecting heavy traffic on this route as residents leave or return to the city.
Majestic is another major area which will see increased traffic, as it has both the KSRTC bus stand and the city railway station, which generally has a lot of passenger movement during holidays.
Old Madras Road: A major route connecting Bengaluru to Kolar and Chennai, Old Madras Road usually has long traffic congestion as vehicles head out for Diwali vacations.
Mysuru Road is another busy national highway which connects Bengaluru with Mysuru and beyond. Since Mysuru is a popular Diwali destination, heavy congestion is expected here.
Hosur Road is also expected to witness long traffic during festive season
Advisory and Precautions for Commuters
The Bengaluru Traffic Police has urged residents to avoid peak travel hours, especially between 4 PM and 9 PM, when traffic is expected to be at its worst. Motorists have been asked to plan journeys in advance, use alternate routes, and stay updated through BTP's social media handles, where real-time traffic alerts and diversion updates will be posted.
The department has also requested citizens to use public transport, such as Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses and Namma Metro services, to minimise congestion in the city's core areas. Additional traffic personnel have been deployed at crucial junctions and flyovers to regulate movement and ensure smoother flow.
