Karnataka Weather Forecast

There was a significant decline in temperature (between -2 degree Celsius or -4 degree Celsius) at a few places over coastal Karnataka. Whereas, there was no large change (-2 degree Celsius to -4 degree Celsius) over interior Karnataka, and at many places over coastal Karnataka.

Few places over South Interior Karnataka, and one or two places over North Interior Karnataka below normal temperature (betweem -1.6 degree Celsius- -3 degree Celsius). Dry weather is likely to prevail over all districts of coastal Karnataka, north Interior Karnataka, and south interior Karnataka.

Karnataka is facing severe cold this year, with extremes across all three seasons and an extended monsoon setting up unusually low temperatures statewide, raising concerns for both public health and agriculture.

Data show that the all-time ten coldest years since 1901 in Bengaluru rural, Mysuru, Raichur, Vijayapura and Bidar have all occurred in the last two decades, with minimum temperatures of 9.5°C, 8.1°C, 7.1°C, 6°C and 5.6°C respectively.

Coldest years and temperature drop trends in Karnataka

Bagalkot has seen eight of its coldest years since 2022, the lowest in over four decades, with temperatures falling to 6.6°C, prompting cold wave alerts as officials warn of health risks and increased fungal diseases affecting crops.

Meteorological officials link the sharp temperature drop to western disturbances and stronger jet streams, while specialists also point to a combination of global and regional influences, including the La Niña phase in the Pacific Ocean, which has helped deepen the ongoing chill.
