Bengaluru Weather Today: Chilly Start to New Year 2026 as Yellow Alert Issued for Several Karnataka Districts

Bengaluru weather today turned sharply colder as the city stepped into New Year 2026, with minimum temperatures dropping below normal across large parts of Karnataka. The latest Karnataka weather update shows a strong winter influence, while a Cold Wave Yellow Alert has been issued for Bidar, Vijayapura and Kalaburagi, warning residents of harsh early-morning conditions.

The temperature data was recorded between 8.30 AM on December 30, and 7.30 AM on December 31,, shows the peak of the ongoing winter spell under Northeast Monsoon (NEM 2025) withdrawal conditions.

Bengaluru Temperature Today: City Sees Chilly New Year Morning

As per official readings from IMD, Bengaluru temperature dipped to 14°C in Bengaluru Urban, 14.1°C in Bengaluru South, and 14.2°C in Bengaluru Rural. While the city is not under a cold wave warning, Bengaluru winter conditions are clearly visible with crisp mornings and cold nights.

According to IMD Bengaluru, clear skies and dry northerly winds are driving overnight cooling. Though daytime temperatures may remain pleasant or even above normal temperatures for this time of the year, mornings and late nights are expected to stay cold.

Karnataka Weather Update: Yellow Alert in North Interior Districts

Several Districts in Karnataka are experiencing a Cold waves weather alert advisory has been issued by state agencies. A Cold Wave Yellow Alert has been officially issued for:

Bidar as the minimum temperature plunged to 6.4°C, the lowest in Karnataka
Vijayapura which recorded 9.9°C with severe cold wave conditions
Kalaburagi saw temperatures drop to 10.1°C

Residents in these districts are advised to limit early morning exposure and take precautions against cold-related discomfort.

Other Districts Record Sharp Temperature Drops

Apart from the alert districts, several regions reported significantly low minimum temperatures. Belagavi (8.7°C), Bagalkote (9.9°C), Raichur (10.4°C), Dharwad and Gadag (10.7°C each) experienced intense winter chill.
In south interior Karnataka, Chikkamagaluru (11.1°C), Hassan (13.1°C), Tumakuru (13.1°C), Kolar (13.3°C) and Chitradurga (13°C) also recorded cold mornings.

Coastal districts continue to remain relatively warm and humid. Udupi recorded 19.2°C, while Dakshina Kannada remained the warmest at 20.8°C, staying outside the cold wave impact zone.

Bengaluru Rain Forecast

As per IMD Bengaluru, there is no immediate Bengaluru rain forecast, with dry weather likely to continue for the next few days. The absence of cloud cover may further intensify night-time cooling, keeping Bengaluru weather today cold during early hours.

Meteorologists say Bengaluru weather will continue to see cold mornings and comfortable afternoons over the next few days. While the city may experience above normal temperatures during the day, winter chill during nights and dawn hours is expected to persist.
