Bengaluru Weather Update: IMD Thunderstorm Alert, Evening Rain And Traffic Advisory For Friday

Bengaluru weather today is covered with cloudy sky, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and squalls across South Interior Karnataka today, 6 November, and tomorrow.

The IMD warning is for rain ahead, and at the worst time, when the city goes out shopping. Jewellers, markets and temples will be crowded through the evening due to Dhanteras and sudden rainfall today can quickly bring the traffic to a crawl.

IMD Thunderstorm Warning For South Interior Karnataka

According to IMD's bulletin issued today, the warning for South Interior Karnataka covers Friday and Saturday, after which no warning is in force from Sunday 8 November through Thursday 12 November.

The KSNDMC forecast adds that rain over South Interior, Coastal and Malnad regions is likely to be scattered and light to moderate, with strong winds, and heavy rain is possible at isolated places. Mornings are expected to stay cold and foggy in many parts of the state.

Bengaluru Rain Forecast Today

The weather today is influenced by Cyclone Murasu, which has weakened near the Bay of Bengal, and IMD had earlier forecasted light to moderate rain continuing from 6 November to 10 November. In the city, forecasts put the chance of rain today at around 50%, with a high near 26°C and a low near 20°C. Showers are likely to be patchy and short, not citywide, but gusty winds and lightning can arrive with little notice.

Bengaluru Traffic Advisory: Waterlogging Hotspots To Avoid

Traffic is the bigger worry. Bengaluru rain mostly has an impact in the evenings when the traffic reaches its peak. Sankey Road, Guttahalli Main Road, JC Nagar Main Road and the inbound stretch from Hebbal is mostly slow-moving in heavy showers.

Raimafalls have caused waterlogging on both sides of the Marathalli bridge, Kaikondahalli, and Iblur towards Bellandur.

Diwali Weekend Weather

There is relief ahead. The bengaluru weather on the weekend looks largely dry, with the rain chance dropping to about 15% on Saturday and Sunday, so Diwali on Sunday 8 November should be mostly clear. Nights will turn cooler, with minimum temperatures dipping to nearly 19°C by Monday 9 November and around 18°C by 10 November.
