In a big relief to members, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has recently streamlined the process to update their personal details, making it easier and faster than before. Now, if your Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked and verified with Aadhaar, you can easily modify key personal information without uploading any supporting documents.

Simplified Profile Updates For EPF Members
EPF members can now update their profiles with essential details, such as
- Name, Date of Birth, Gender, and Nationality
- Father's or Mother's Name
- Marital Status and Spouse's Name
- Date of Joining and Date of Leaving
Previously, members required employer approval for profile modifications, which caused delays of up to 28 days on average. With the new system, members can now self-update their profiles, significantly reducing the processing time.
According to EPFO's statement, in FY 2024-25, nearly 8 lakh correction requests were received through employers, and about 45 per cent of these changes can now be self-approved by members without requiring employer verification.
However, employer certification is still required in certain cases, particularly if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017.
What Is UAN?
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique identifier allotted by EPFO to each employee contributing to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF). It serves as an umbrella number, linking multiple Member Identification Numbers (Member IDs) assigned by different employers under a single UAN.
Key Features of UAN
- Seamless Transfer of PF Accounts - Employees changing jobs can link their new PF account to their existing UAN, avoiding the hassle of multiple accounts.
- Access to Online Services - Members can download their passbook, UAN card, and check eligibility for online transfer claims.
- KYC Updates - Members can enter and modify Know Your Customer (KYC) details such as Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details for verification.
- Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme - To access benefits under this EPFO scheme, members must activate their UAN and link it with Aadhaar and their bank account.
- Future Enhancements - EPFO is expected to introduce more digital services under UAN for better member convenience.
How To Update Your EPF Profile Online?
Updating your EPF profile is now a quick and simple process. Follow these steps:
- Visit the EPFO Unified Member Portal - Go to the official website: www.epfindia.gov.in
- Login - Enter your UAN number, password, and captcha to access your account.
- Navigate to the Profile Update Section - Click on 'Manage' from the top menu.
- Select 'Modify Basic Details' - Choose this option to update your personal information.
- Enter Correct Details as per Aadhaar - Make sure your name, date of birth, and other details match exactly with your Aadhaar card.
- Submit the Request - After submission, you can monitor the status of your request using the 'Track Request' option.
This initiative by EPFO aims to make profile updates faster, simpler, and more accessible, ensuring members can manage their EPF accounts with greater ease and transparency.
