Ladki Bahin Yojana Update: The beneficiaries of the Maharashtra government's Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme, aka Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme, will have to wait more to receive their pending instalment. The pending Ladki Bahin Yojana instalments will not be released before the civic polls.

The state government will not release the January instalment under the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' scheme for eligible beneficiaries in advance in compliance with a directive from the State Election Commission (SEC), said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, January 13.

Ladki Bahin Yojana Instalment Date

Earlier, certain media reports claimed that the pending Ladki Bahin Yojana instalment was released in the first half of the month. However, the State Election Commission has restricted the disbursement of January instalment among beneficiaries under the model code of conduct in force for the 15 January elections to 29 municipal corporations. The poll body said the government could not disburse the January instalment in advance while the election process was underway.

Ladki Bahin Yojana instalment is expected to be disbursed among beneficiaires after the completion of the civic body polls. "We are releasing regular instalments. Our practice has been to give an advance instalment during major festivals. Since the commission has directed not to release the advance instalment, it will not be released. We will do so after January 16," PTI quoted Devendra Fadnavis as saying.

What is Ladki Bahin Yojana?

The Ladki Bahin Yojana is a flagship welfare programme of the Maharashtra government. Under the scheme, eligible women receive Rs 1,500 every month as direct financial assistance. Officials credit this support measure with helping the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secure a strong victory in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections.

Earlier, the government often released one month's Ladki Bahin Yojana support early during major festivals, mainly targeting poorer women. This time, the January instalment of Rs 1,500 will be transferred after 16 January, once counting for the 29 civic corporations is completed, instead of before the Makar Sankranti period.
