Big Relief for Farmers! Kisan Credit Card Limit Raised to Rs.5 Lakh From 3 lakh; Check Eligibility & Benefits

A big update is here for the farming community in India as the government has increased the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan limit from Rs.3 lakh to Rs.5 lakh, expanding access to affordable agricultural credit.

The Kisan Credit Card scheme has become one of the country's most important rural credit programmes. According to government data, nearly 8 crore farmers have benefited from collateral-free KCC loans, while more than Rs.10 lakh crore has been disbursed under the scheme, helping farmers reduce dependence on informal moneylenders and get access to institutional credit at lower interest rates.

What Is the New KCC Loan Limit?

Under the new rules, eligible farmers can now avail Kisan Credit Card loans of up to Rs.5 lakh, compared to the earlier limit of Rs.3 lakh.
This is the right time since the agricultural input costs have increased sharply including the costs of seeds, fertilizers, labour and irrigation expenses.

Farmers will now be able to invest more in productivity-enhancing measures, modern farm equipment and better crop management practices.

How Kisan Credit Card Benefits Farmers

The KCC scheme provides timely credit to farmers for short-term agricultural needs. It covers crop cultivation, post-harvest expenses, working capital requirements and allied activities such as dairy farming, animal husbandry and fisheries. Farmers can also access revolving credit facilities through participating banks.

Along with the increase in the KCC limit, the government is also actively rolling out several other farmer-focused initiatives. The PM-KISAN scheme continues to provide direct income support of Rs.6,000 annually to eligible farmer families, while the government recently released over Rs.18,640 crore to more than 9.32 crore beneficiaries under the latest PM-KISAN installment.

Who Can Apply for Kisan Credit Card?

The Kisan Credit Card scheme is available to eligible farmers engaged in agriculture and allied sectors. Farmers can apply through public sector banks, private banks, regional rural banks and cooperative banks participating in the scheme. Applications can also be linked with PM-KISAN beneficiaries to simplify access to agricultural credit.
