Bihar's First Inland Container Depot Set to Enhance Industrial Sector and Global Trade

Bihar's first Dry Port and Inland Container Depot (ICD) was inaugurated on Monday by Industries Minister Nitish Mishra in Bihta, near Patna. This facility aims to enhance logistics by offering warehousing, customs services, and multi-modal transport options. "It’s a big day for Bihar. This facility will transform our industrial sector," Mishra stated, highlighting the importance of the new ICD for local exporters and importers.

The ICD Bihta has received approval from the Revenue Department of the Ministry of Finance as an inland container depot. It is strategically connected by rail to major ports like Kolkata, Haldia, Visakhapatnam, and Mundra. This connectivity offers a comprehensive solution for Bihar's importers and exporters, providing modern warehousing, customs clearance, and transportation services.

Boosting Bihar's Global Trade

Mishra emphasised that this development is a significant milestone in expanding Bihar's global trade presence and enhancing international commerce. The depot, established by Pristine Magadh Infrastructure Private Ltd, is expected to support Bihar's long-term industrial goals and strengthen the state's logistics sector.

Bihar's contribution to industrialisation is noteworthy despite being primarily an agricultural state. The state exports agricultural products like maize, litchi, and rice. Additionally, packaged food, sponge iron, and waste paper are also significant in its export-import activities.

Enhancing Industrial Aspirations

Previously, Bihar's exporters and importers had to seek customs clearance at distant ports or in other states. With the opening of ICD Bihta, they can now access these services locally. This change allows them to establish themselves in global markets more competitively.

Mishra noted that the new facility would provide stability and strength to Bihar's logistics sector. It represents a crucial step towards fulfilling the state's industrial aspirations by offering essential services that were previously unavailable within the region.
