New Delhi is preparing to host a high-profile gathering of political leaders, senior officials and corporate executives as India convenes the BRICS Summit on September 12-13 at Bharat Mandapam. With the expanded grouping bringing together major emerging economies, the guest list features several prominent world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Their presence puts the three major BRICS economies at the centre of discussions as the grouping seeks to expand cooperation on trade, investment, energy and global governance. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto are also expected to participate.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is expected to be represented by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, while Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira is listed among the expected participants. The 11 full BRICS members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Among the expected leaders from partner and outreach countries are Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The list also includes Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Uganda is expected to be represented by Vice-President Jessica Alupo.

The participation of countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America highlights the wider geographical reach of the BRICS platform and its growing focus on issues relevant to developing economies.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also expected to attend the summit, adding further international significance to the New Delhi meeting.

Chinese Corporate Delegation Expected at BRICS Business Meetings

The political gathering will be accompanied by a significant corporate presence, particularly from China. A large Chinese business delegation is expected in New Delhi, bringing senior executives from some of the country's biggest companies.

Among the names listed for the business meetings are Houliang Dai, chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC); Lin Liao, chairman of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Min Wan, chairman of China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

Senior executives from Huawei Technologies and Alibaba Group are also expected to participate. Their presence is likely to put technology, digital commerce, financial services and logistics among the key areas attracting business attention.

The business delegation is not limited to China. Several prominent corporate leaders from other BRICS economies are also expected to take part in the discussions. The expected participants include Francisco Gomes Neto of Embraer, Gustavo Pimenta of Vale, Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa of Naspers, Oleg Belozerov of Russian Railways and Alexander Vedyakhin of Sberbank.

BRICS Business Forum to Begin Ahead of Leaders' Summit

The economic engagement will begin even before the main leaders' program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi on September 11, a day before the leaders' summit gets underway.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are also expected to address the opening session. Discussions at the business forum are set to cover areas including agriculture, investment, trade, supply chains and digital commerce.
