Budget 2022: Seven Growth Engines Under PM Gati Shakti National Plan

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman Annouced that the government would extend the National Highway network by 25,000 kilometers under the PM Gati Shakti master plan. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan is a game-changing strategy for economic growth and development, powered by seven engines: roads, railroads, airports, ports, public transportation, waterways, and logistics infrastructure. The Master Plan will be driven by these seven engines for growth and transformation.

Gati Shakti

The PM Gati Shakti master plan for road transport would be completed in 2022-23, according to the budget announcement by Finance Minister. The size and quality of infrastructure impact a country's capacity to leverage its comparative advantage and enable cost competitiveness, according to the Economic Survey released on January 31. Despite this, the study shows a constant growth in the development of National Highways/roads since 2013-14, with 13,327 km in 2020-21 compared to 10,237 km in 2019-20.

While presenting the Budget 2022-23, FM Sitaraman stated that the seven engines will work together to propel the economy ahead. The Gati Shakti Plan would include seven economic transformation engines, as well as seamless multimodal connectivity and logistics. The state government will also be responsible for infrastructure development in accordance with the Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Planning, faster implementation, funding, and technology utilization will be the four key areas.
