Cabinet Cuts LPG Prices Under Ujjwala Scheme By Rs 200 Per Cylinder

In a latest move, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday decided to cut cooking gas prices by Rs 200 per cylinder, said Union Minister Anurag Thakur after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Cabinet has also given its nod for an additional subsidy of Rs 200 under the Ujjwala scheme, following which, beneficiaries will now have to pay Rs 400 less in total.

Terming the move as a gift from the Prime Minister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Onam, Thakur said: "PM Modi has decided that LPG price will be reduced by Rs 200 for all consumers. The government will also provide 75 lakh new LPG connections for free under the Ujjwala scheme."

Presently, a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder is costing Rs 1,103 in New Delhi. Now after the decline in prices, it will cost Rs 903 Wednesday onwards. For Ujjwala beneficiaries, the price will be Rs 703 after considering the continuing Rs 200 per cylinder subsidy.
