In a heartening development for animal welfare in Delhi, 100 dogs have been equipped with QR-based 'Aadhar cards' to ensure their safety and protection. Spearheaded by Priya Chopra, the Delhi chapter lead of Pawfriend.in, this initiative marks a significant stride towards safeguarding the city's furry inhabitants.
The drive, which took place on April 27, 2024, saw dogs receiving their unique QR-based tags at key locations such as the Delhi T1 Airport, India Gate, and the esteemed NGO Pawfriend.in. These tags, akin to the national identification system, aim to serve as a lifeline for our four-legged friends, particularly in times of distress or when they stray.

The initiative commenced with the tagging of dogs in and around Manavi Rai's shelter, a crucial step in preventing them from getting lost. Manavi Rai, an ardent animal rights activist, expressed her joy and emphasised the significance of the QR-based tags in ensuring the safety of stray dogs.
Pawfriend.in, a pioneering NGO dedicated to the welfare of stray animals across India, has been at the forefront of innovative initiatives and community-driven efforts. Through this initiative, the organisation aims to create a safer and more compassionate environment for all furry companions, reflecting its mission towards a digital Bharat for animals.
Recognising the vulnerability of stray dogs, particularly during major events, a considerable number of dogs were tagged at strategic locations such as the T1 Airport and India Gate. These QR-based 'Aadhar cards' contain vital information, including feeder details and emergency contacts, facilitating prompt reunions with carers in case of separation.
Priya Chopra, sharing a heartwarming anecdote, recounted the reunion with her own community dog, Browine, thanks to the QR-based tag provided by Pawfriend.in. This touching reunion underscores the tangible impact of such initiatives on strengthening the bond between humans and animals.
Expressing gratitude for the launch of the initiative in Delhi, Chopra emphasized the importance of collective action in ensuring a safer environment for stray animals. She remarked that it is a moment of joy for all animal lovers in Delhi as they embark on the journey towards a safer Bharat for their furry companions.
The founder of Pawfriend.in, Akshay Ridlan, highlighted the organisation's commitment to expanding its reach and impact. With approximately 6350 tags distributed across India, the organisation aims to scale this effort tenfold within the year, further enhancing the safety and welfare of stray animals nationwide.
QR-based 'Aadhar cards' for dogs represent a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and protection of Delhi's furry residents. With the collective efforts of organisations like Pawfriend.in and passionate individuals, the city is moving towards a more compassionate and inclusive environment for all beings.
