The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids on Friday at the residence of Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways, along with seven other locations connected to him. The raids were conducted in relation to an alleged bank fraud case amounting to ₹ 538 crore.
The CBI registered the case against Goyal, his wife Anita, former director Gaurang Ananda Shetty, and some unknown bank officials based on a complaint filed by Canara Bank. The bank has accused them of diverting funds and causing losses to the bank.
Sources have indicated that the recent raids at seven locations are unrelated to the Jalan Kalrock Consortium, the new owners of Jet Airways. The consortium, which has an office in Gurgaon, is currently working on revitalizing the airline after it was grounded in April 2019 due to financial difficulties.

Jet Airways, once the largest private carrier in India, had to suspend its operations due to mounting debt and a severe cash crunch. The airline was acquired by a partnership between Murari Lal Jalan, a UAE-based businessman, and Kalrock Capital, a London-based investment firm, in June 2021 following a lengthy insolvency process.
The CBI has charged the founders of Jet Airways with embezzling money. The agency claims that the airline spent 1,152.62 crore on professional and consulting costs between April 1, 2011, and June 30, 2019. businesses affiliated to Jet Airways were found to have suspicious transactions totaling 197.57 crore, and top management staff from the airline were also linked to these businesses.
According to the investigation, Jet Airways paid 420.43 crore ($420.43 million) out of the total $1,152.62 crore ($1,152.62 million) in professional and consulting expenses to organisations whose operations did not correspond to the services listed on their invoices.
These firms purportedly had a turnover equivalent to the expense amount recorded by Jet Airways under the pretence of professional and consultancy expenses.
