The Central government has partnered with food delivery giant Swiggy to provide enhanced training and job opportunities. The partnership, announced on September 7, aims to equip over 2.4 lakh delivery partners and restaurant staff within Swiggy's extensive network with new skills that will enhance their employability in the growing gig economy. This initiative, part of the government's broader skill development agenda, is expected to improve job prospects in restaurant operations, logistics, and retail management.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has joined forces with Swiggy to roll out the "Swiggy Skills" initiative, an innovative program aimed at providing skill development, internships, and employment across the company's food delivery and quick commerce platforms.

Speaking about the initiative, Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasized the critical role that public-private partnerships can play in fostering workforce development. "Today's partnership showcases how public-private partnerships can accelerate and create new avenues for the workforce in the logistics sector. There are huge opportunities in this space, and we wish to see more corporates engaging with us," Chaudhary said.
Under the Swiggy Skills initiative, Swiggy will integrate its delivery partner platform with the government's Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), which provides access to a range of online courses, certifications, and training modules. This integration will allow Swiggy's workforce, which includes over 2 lakh restaurant partners and approximately 2.4 lakh delivery personnel.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, echoed these sentiments and provided additional insights into how the initiative would unfold. "We plan to integrate with MSDE's Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) across our partners' apps, enabling almost 2.4 lakh delivery partners and the staff of our 2 lakh restaurant partners to easily access online skill development courses, offline certifications, and training modules," Kapoor stated.
In addition to the digital upskilling initiative, Swiggy will focus on creating direct employment opportunities. Kapoor revealed that Swiggy's quick commerce arm, Instamart, plans to recruit 3,000 individuals nationwide. Further, the company will provide training and internships to 200 individuals trained by MSDE, specifically for senior-level positions in Swiggy's quick commerce operations.
Swiggy has recently introduced an industry-first feature-Incognito Mode-designed to enhance customer privacy when placing orders. This new feature will allow users to place food or quick commerce orders without leaving a digital footprint in the app's order history, providing a more discreet ordering experience.
Swiggy's Incognito Mode, which is currently available to 10% of users and will be gradually rolled out to all, is being hailed as a game-changer in how people use food delivery and quick commerce platforms. "As social as our lives are becoming, there are still things we prefer to keep private, and Incognito Mode is designed to address that need," said Kapoor.
Swiggy highlighted that the feature will be particularly useful for users purchasing personal wellness products from Swiggy Instamart, offering a layer of discretion that can boost user confidence. The Incognito Mode can be activated via a simple toggle in the user's cart. Once activated, a reminder will appear to confirm the mode is on, and after the order is delivered, it will remain trackable for three hours to address any post-delivery concerns. Following this period, the order will be automatically hidden from the user's history.
