Centre Allocates Rs 5,858 Crore to Support Flood Relief in 14 Affected States

The Union Home Ministry has allocated Rs 5,858.60 crore to 14 states affected by floods. This funding comes from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Maharashtra received Rs 1,492 crore, Andhra Pradesh Rs 1,036 crore, and Assam Rs 716 crore. Other allocations include Bihar with Rs 655.60 crore and Gujarat with Rs 600 crore.

West Bengal was granted Rs 468 crore, while Telangana received Rs 416.80 crore. Himachal Pradesh was allocated Rs 189.20 crore, Kerala Rs 145.60 crore, Manipur Rs 50 crore, Tripura Rs 25 crore, Sikkim Rs 23.60 crore, Mizoram Rs 21.60 crore, and Nagaland Rs 19.20 crore. These states have been impacted by severe rainfall, floods, and landslides during the south-west monsoon.

Central Government's Support

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's guidance, the central government is committed to supporting states affected by natural disasters. The government aims to alleviate the hardships faced by people in these regions through financial assistance and logistical support.

The Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) were dispatched to assess damages in Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Tripura, Nagaland, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur. These teams conduct on-the-spot evaluations of the destruction caused by floods.

Future Assessments and Assistance

IMCTs will soon visit Bihar and West Bengal for damage assessments due to recent flooding events. Once reports are submitted, additional financial aid from the NDRF will be approved following established procedures.

This year alone, over Rs 14,958 crore has been distributed to 21 states. This includes Rs 9,044.80 crore from the SDRF to these states and Rs 4,528.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states. Additionally, Rs 1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been provided to 11 states.

Comprehensive Support Measures

Beyond financial aid, the central government has extended logistical support to flood-affected regions. This includes deploying necessary teams from the NDRF as well as personnel from the Army and Air Force to assist in relief efforts.

The government's comprehensive approach aims to ensure that affected states receive both immediate relief and long-term support in rebuilding efforts after natural calamities.
