According to the Hindu mythological texts, a demon named Mahishasura was a great devotee of Lord Brahma. Through intense penance, he pleased Brahma and received a boon that no god, demon, or human on earth could kill him. After receiving this boon from Brahma, Mahishasura became cruel and ruthless, spreading terror across all three worlds. Distressed by his tyranny, the gods prayed to lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva for help.

In response, Goddess Shakti manifested as Maa Durga to free the world from his oppression. A fierce battle ensued between Maa Durga and Mahishasura for nine days, and on the tenth day, Maa Durga slayed Mahishasura. Since then, the nine days of the battle are celebrated as a victory of good over evil.

Navratri Connection With Lord Ram:

According to Vedic beliefs, before Lord Ram invaded Lanka, he worshipped Maa Durga for nine days on the shores of the sea at Rameshwaram. He prayed to the goddess for victory in his battle against the demon king Ravana. Pleased with his devotion, Maa Durga blessed him with success in the war. As a result, Lord Ram defeated Ravana in battle, killing him, and won Lanka. This victory is celebrated as Dussehra, and the nine days leading up to it are celebrated as Sharadiya Navratri.

Navratri is one of the most important festivals in India. Throughout the nine days and nights, it is celebrated with great dedication, excitement, and passion across the country.
