Chennai Traffic Alert: Planning to Drive Near Anna Salai, Teynampet, Saidapet? Check Diversions For 3 Days

Chennai Traffic Alert: Traffic will be diverted for three days from Sunday to Tuesday on routes from Tynampet to Saidapet and near the Anna Salai area due to ongoing construction work.

Traffic diversions will be implemented on a trial basis for three days from 20 April to 22 April due to the ongoing construction work of the proposed four-lane elevated corridor by the Highways Department on GST Road, said Greater Chennai Traffic Police in a press release.

Apart from traffic diversions, certain locations in Chennai near Anna Salai, Teynampet, Saidapet and other surrounding areas have been identified as no-parking zones. Some routes have been converted into one-way travel zones. For motorists and pedestrians in the city, here are the key details about Chennai traffic diversion set to come into effect from Sunday, April 20.

-Chennai traffic diversions from Teynampet towards Saidapet: All vehicles coming in the mentioned directions will be diverted via Cenotaph Road to Turnbulls Junction then they have to take right turn towards Chamiers Road (Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Devar Road), move towards Nandanam Junction, and take left/right turn towards Anna Salai to reach their destination.

-Chennai Traffic restrictions from Saidapet towards Chamiers Road: Movement of cars, motorcycles and other vehicles will remain restricted on the route. Alternatively, they have been advised to move towards their destination via Anna Salai to Cenotaph Road, and then Chamiers Road.

-Chennai Traffic Conversion of Route To One-Way: For Chennai motorists travelling via GKM Bridge, the route will remain a 'One-Way' entry from Cenotaph road. Similarly. Rathna nagar main road has been converted into one-way road from Cenotaph road.

-Chennai traffic no entry : There will be no entry for vehicles coming from Gandhimandapam road. Additionally, vehicles will not be allowed to enter from Annasalai to Rathna nagar main road. From Anna Salai, entry allowed from Cenotaph 1st street but No entry from Cenotaph 1st main road.

-Chennai travel restrictions: Entry of vehicles from Kotturpuram towards Teynampet via Cenotaph road will be restricted till Tuesday. As an alternative route, vehicles can travel via GKM Flyover Service Road to Turnbulls junction and proceed towards Chamiers road to Nandanam Junction to Anna Salai.

-No parking zones: The police have declared Anna Salai, Cenotaph Road, Chamiers Road and the surrounding one-way loop roads as no-parking zones in the wake of ongoing construction in the area.

The completion of Chennai's four-lane elevated corridor in the area enhance traffic movement and reduce traffic congestion during busy hours. The corridor would allow motorists to cross seven traffic junctions which are used by more than 2.3 lakh motorists every day.

The traffic junctions include Eldams Road, SIET College, Cenotaph Road, Nandanam, CIT Nagar Third and First Main Roads, and Todd Hunter Nagar-Jones Road. The 3.2 kilometer-long corridor stretch will help in releasing the traffic congestion in the city, especially during busy hours and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 485 crore. Traffic diversions often become a cause of trouble for motorists, hence people in Chennai must plan accordingly for the day to avoid any inconvenience.
