The Usha Arghya or Udayagami Arghya marks the end of the Chhath Puja rituals. On this day, devotees gather at rivers, ponds and ghats before dawn to worship the rising Sun (Surya Dev). They offer water, milk, fruits, and sweets in brass or bronze vessels while chanting 'Om Suryaya Namah'.

After offering Arghya, devotees break their 36-hour-long waterless fast in a ceremony called Parana by consuming Thekua, fruits, and holy water. This act symbolizes gratitude and the successful completion of the Chhath Vrat.

Before dawn, women observing the fast take a purifying bath and dress in traditional attire, often in yellow or red sarees, symbolizing purity and devotion. They carry bamboo baskets (soops) filled with offerings such as Thekua, sugarcane, coconuts, bananas, betel nuts, jaggery, rice, grass (Duba), and lamps (Diyas).
As the first rays of the morning sun appear, devotees stand facing east and pour water from their brass pots while offering prayers. The ritual concludes with collective chants and the distribution of Prasad, signifying the end of the festival.
Chhath Puja is one of the most significant festivals in North India, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Delhi-NCR. It celebrates gratitude, purity and devotion to nature's energy source, the Sun. Devotees observe rigorous fasting and rituals over four days, seeking blessings for prosperity, longevity, and the well-being of their families.
The observance of Chhath involves standing waist-deep in water and offering Arghya (water and prayers) to the Sun God during sunrise and sunset. The festival's culmination with Usha Arghya, offered to the rising sun, symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and renewal of spiritual energy.
