Cities Across India Tighten Reins For Safe New Year Celebrations; Here's What You Need To Know

Major cities across India are implementing stringent measures to ensure safe New Year celebrations as the countdown to 2024 begins. From Delhi to Mumbai, Bengaluru to Lucknow, authorities are leaving no stone unturned to maintain order and security during the festivities.

Delhi: The national capital is gearing up with the deployment of 2,500 personnel from the Delhi Traffic Police to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles. Additionally, 250 teams will be on the lookout for drunken driving on New Year's Eve. Notable areas like Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas, and South Extension markets will have heightened vigilance.

Mumbai: Mumbai is under the shadow of Section 144, enforced by the Mumbai Police until January 18. This imposition comes with a slew of restrictions, including a ban on flying drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, para motors, paragliders, and hot air balloons over the city. A substantial police force of around 2,500 personnel, including high-ranking officers, will be deployed to ensure the safety of citizens during this period.

Goa: In Goa, where tourists are flocking in anticipation of lively celebrations, the police have formed special teams to combat the use of narcotic drugs during New Year festivities. These teams will be actively patrolling the coastal belt and high-profile events like the Sunburn EDM festival.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru authorities have put stringent checks on drunk driving, traffic restrictions in key areas, and heightened security throughout the city are part of the comprehensive plan. Major roads like MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St Marks Road, and Church Street will see restricted traffic on the nights of December 31 and January 1, 2024.

Lucknow: The city of Lucknow is also taking precautions by implementing Section 144. In anticipation of New Year's festivities, public gatherings in malls, bars, restaurants, hotels, and other public spaces are restricted. The Lucknow district ad ministration is ensuring a safe environment by enforcing these measures.

With the imposition of these restrictions, authorities aim to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the safety of citizens as they bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new. While the atmosphere is expected to be lively and jubilant, the emphasis on security is a reminder that safety remains a top priority for the authorities.
