CNG, PNG Prices Hike In September 2026: Mahanagar Gas Increases CNG Prices By Rs 2/Kg, PNG Up By Rs 1/SCM

The start of September 1, 2026, has witnessed huge changes in natural gas prices that will leave a dent for Ola, Uber, taxi, and Auto rickshaw drivers. Not so surprisingly, Mahanagar Gas (MGL) has joined the bandwagon and hiked compressed natural gas (CNG) prices by Rs 2 per Kg across Mumbai and suburbs. Not just that MGL has also increased prices of domestic piped natural gas (PNG) by Rs 1/SCM.

In its statement, MGL said, "In view of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has resulted in a significant increase in input gas prices linked to international indices, MGL has announced a revision in the prices of CNG."

It further explained that there is significant demand for CNG products, and a major portion of input gas for the CNG segment is met through imported spot RLNG. This has resulted in a considerable increase in input gas cost for CNG segment. MGL now has to source gas at higher spot RLNG to meet the increased CNG demand.

Notably, MGL's latest hike comes after its peer, Indraprastha Gas, increased CNG and domestic PNG rates in Delhi-NCR with effect from August 29, 2026.

CNG Prices Hiked From September 1

Accordingly, MGL hiked CNG prices by Rs 2 per Kg for commuters in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Latur and Dharashiv in Maharashtra and Chitradurga and Davangere in Karnataka.

The use of CNG as a fuel to run vehicles was first discovered way back in the late 1800s. With the advent of technology and people becoming more aware of the hazardous effect of the use of petrol and diesel on the natural environment, many people across the globe has helped the CNG vehicles to gain popularity.

PNG Prices Hiked From September 1

Meanwhile, PNG prices are increased by Rs 1 per SCM across similar regions.

PNG (Piped Natural Gas) is derived from natural gas, which primarily consists of methane. It is supplied directly through pipelines and used in households, industries, and commercial setups. Compared to LPG, PNG is less toxic, burns cleaner, and significantly reduces the risk of accidents due to its lighter-than-air property.
