CNG Price Hike for Second Time in Just 2 Days in Delhi-NCR; IGL Raises Rates by Rs 3/Kg: City-Wise CNG Prices
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has become more expensive once again for vehicle owners in Delhi-NCR, dealing another inflationary blow to commuters and transport operators. After a Rs 2 per kg increase earlier this week, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a further hike of Rs 1 per kg effective from 6:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2026.
CNG Prices Hiked Twice in Two Days in Delhi-NCR; IGL Raises Rates by Total Rs 3 Per Kg
This marks the second increase in just two days and takes the total rise in CNG prices to Rs 3 per kilogram within 48 hours, pushing up fuel costs for millions of auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, commercial vehicle owners and private motorists who rely on CNG for everyday travel.

CNG Rates Reached Above Rs 80/Kg
With this revision, the price of CNG in Delhi has risen to Rs 80.09 per kg. The increase is expected to raise operating costs for auto-rickshaws, taxis, app-based cabs, private vehicles and small commercial transport fleets that rely on CNG as a comparatively economical fuel.

Why IGL Increased CNG Prices
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the primary supplier of CNG and PNG in Delhi-NCR, said the price adjustment was necessary to partially offset higher input gas costs and the steep appreciation of the U.S. dollar.
In an official statement, the company said, "The retail selling price of CNG has been increased by Rs 1/kg w.e.f. 6 AM on 17.05.2026 in all GAs of IGL. The revision in retail prices of CNG has been effected only to marginally offset the impact of increase in input gas cost along with steep appreciation of USD. Even after revision, CNG would still offer up to 45% savings towards the running cost when compared to vehicles running on alternate fuel at the current level of prices."
The company emphasised that despite the latest hike, CNG remains significantly cheaper than petrol and diesel for daily use.
PNG and Domestic LPG Prices Unchanged on 17 May 2026
While transport fuel users are facing higher costs, there is some relief for households. The prices of Piped Natural Gas (PNG), which is supplied to homes for cooking, and domestic LPG cylinders remain unchanged for now.
This means consumers using PNG connections or subsidised cooking gas cylinders will not see any immediate increase in kitchen fuel expenses.
CNG Price Hike Impact on Delhi-NCR Commuters
The latest CNG price hike is expected to affect millions of commuters, especially in cities where auto-rickshaws, taxis and buses depend heavily on natural gas.
Transport unions may seek fare revisions if fuel costs continue to rise. In cities such as Mumbai, auto-rickshaw associations have already begun demanding an increase in base fares following recent fuel cost escalation.
Higher transportation charges can have a wider economic impact by increasing logistics costs and feeding into retail inflation, thereby reducing household purchasing power.
The increase in CNG prices comes amid a sharp rise in global crude oil and natural gas prices, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions involving Iran and the broader West Asia region.
The surge in energy prices has raised costs for fuel importers and distributors, while the strengthening U.S. dollar has further increased the burden on Indian companies that purchase gas in foreign currency.
